About: Vital Wines, established in 2016 by winemaker Ashley Trout, is a nonprofit winery based in Walla Walla, Washington. The winery's mission is to enhance healthcare access for vineyard and winery workers in the Walla Walla Valley, reflecting a deep commitment to community well-being.
Ashley Trout, the founder and winemaker of Vital Wines, began her winemaking career at 18. She gained experience working harvests in Mendoza, Argentina, and has been an integral part of the Walla Walla Valley wine scene since 1999. In addition to Vital Wines, she owns Brook & Bull Cellars, her third winery in the region.
Vital Wines operates uniquely as a nonprofit entity, dedicating 100% of its net proceeds to promoting the health and wellness of vineyard and winery workers in Washington State. This includes funding open-door, free clinics, as well as educational and advocacy initiatives. The winery relies heavily on donations, with many aspects of production—such as grapes, corks, and capsules—being contributed by supporters.
