Description
This is a bundle we're elated to share, and it's because you'll receive 7-bottles for $90! We've been tinkering with this idea for a while (again), and when it finally came together, we decided to name it for its optimism. We're calling this set On the Bright Side, short for "looking on the bright side."
In this bundle, you'll receive a delish assembly of vino that'll suit many an occasion and mood. Here's the breakdown: 3 white wines (Portugal, Italy, France), 1 rosé (Provence, France), and 3 red wines (Chile, Italy, France).
1. Caves Messias, Santola "Crab Wine" Vinho Verde NV is one of our yearly favorites from Portugal, and it's perfect for PNW year-round fare. The Vinho Branco (white wine) is a blend of Loureiro and Pederna. Vibrant, refreshing, zesty, and a little salty, it's a Vinho Verde that also finishes dry & lifted.
2. Showing age beautifully, the 2014 Puente Austral, Gran Reserva, Valle de Colchagua, Chile is a wonderfully rich, sultry, and expressive wine of Cabernet Sauvignon (70%) and Syrah (30%) from Chile. Dark fruit, sweet tobacco notes, a hint of cigar wrapper, and smooth tannins make this a delight for any evening with or without food.
3. The Cantine Elvio Tinter Vino Bianco is a "Piemontese white blend from Marco Tintero, a specialist of festive, unpretentious, and hedonistic bottlings from the gorgeous hills of Piedmont. Not only does it deliver flat-out deliciousness and exceptional value, but more importantly—and more fun—it bears a slight effervescence that dials its “festive factor” up to 10. With pure, bright, and fresh notes of citrus and orchard fruit, this bianco proves once again that Piedmont is not just about lofty Barolo and Barbaresco, but is home also to some of the country’s great weeknight table—and weekend celebration—wines." —Tom Wolf, KLWM
4. From Italy's northeast, the 2021 Cesari 'Justo' Veneto Rosso is easy to enjoy with ragu, pasta, pizza, or risotto with its lovely fruit, structure, and velvety edges. This savory red leans on the side of restraint with subtle cherry and plum aromas as forest floor and spices dominate the nose.
5. 2023 Chateau Le Roc Bordeaux Blanc offers a fresh and inviting experience with full, round flavors of citrus, lemon, and grapefruit, balanced by light mineral notes and a certain liveliness. The intense aromatics carry over beautifully, combining floral and fruity flavors with a subtle trace of acidity on the finish. A Bordeaux Blanc that pairs with anything, sometimes just a glass, and a late, sleepy afternoon with moody records and contemplation.
6. A classic French bisto rouge from fifth-generation winemaker, Philippe Fezas of Domaine Chiroulet! The 2023 Domaine Chiroulet "Java" Rouge, IGP Cotes de Gascogne is a blend of 50% Merlot, 35% Cabernet Franc, 15% Syrah. A little background: Red wines from Gascogny are far rarer than their white counterparts. These rare red gems comprise only 10% of the total production from the area, which may seem at odds with its location, as this part of France isn’t too far from Bordeaux (less than a 2-hour drive south from Bordeaux). This red captures the typicity of red wines from the region: Cool red and black fruits, touches of soft spices like cinnamon, and a hint of smokiness right at the outset of the wine that blows off with a bit of air. Once this wine starts to open, ripe raspberries and black currant notes meet a distinct undercurrent of minerality, wet stone, and pepper. This little charmer is all about bistro vibes and calls for another glass with a plate of chicken liver pâté and croquettes de courgettes (zucchini fritters).
7. The Provence Rosé (2022 Chateau de Roquefort Corail, Cotes de Provence Rose) included in this package may be the 2022 vintage, but it's definitely in an excellent spot for enjoying! Here, a delicately spicy grapefruit nose is complemented by white peach, fennel, lychee, and slate on the palate. It is so clean and refreshing, and yes, it's dry and perfect for any evening when you're craving Provençal food or beachy feels.
