Region: Andalucia, Spain
Varietal: Moscatel
Tasting Notes: Beautiful clear amber color. Aromas of honey, dried apricot, and nuts. Velvety unctuous mouthfeel, lending a long finish with a lingering muscat notes.
Pairing: A good cheese and charcuterie board is a fail safe here. Be sure to think regional to the bottle, so perhaps meats similar to iberico and cheeses in the realm of a good manchego. It can also be a fun accompaniment to spicier appetizers. My personal favorite has been Smashed Potatoes With Thai-Style Chile and Herb Sauce by Lidey Heuck. SO GOOD! Naturally, dessert is a wonderful time to enjoy a glass from this bottle as well!
“The Barbadillo family, originally from Burgos, has managed with Vega Real to make their dream of returning to their origins come true, thus closing their family circle.
Vega Real is not only a range of wines, but also a way of interpreting the Ribera del Duero. Each wine is unique and with its own personality. Reflection of the historical environment of the winery. A small/medium sized boutique winery, founded in 1997 and located in the heart of La Ribera, very close to Peñafiel. There, next to a meander of the Duero River, surrounded by hundred-year-old poplars, red grapes are born to be adored.
The elaboration processes have a high artisanal component, betting on the optimization and specialization in the management of the vineyard. To guarantee the selection of the best grapes each year according to the personality of each red, the management of the own vineyard is combined with the integration and total management of the vineyards of the three best winegrowers in the area, who work exclusively for Vega Real. This provides flexibility in the search for maximum homogeneity and qualitative stability, vintage after vintage, for Vega Real Roble, El Empecinado and Vaccayos.” -winemaker
