Taste: In the glass this is a deep ruby. The nose opens with aromas of redcurrant, cherry, and plum, layered with violets, earth, and subtle spice. On the palate, the wine is structured yet fresh, with a core of dark red fruit framed by fine-grained tannins and lifted acidity. Notes of iron and crushed stone give it a distinct mineral edge, while discreet oak brings a touch of vanilla and toast. The finish is long and firm, with lingering flavors of cherry skin, spice, and savory earthiness. This is a wine that balances youthful energy with the backbone for mid-term cellaring.
Pairing: Pommard’s firm tannins and earthy depth pair best with dishes that provide savory richness, aromatic herbs, and moderate fat. General rules to keep in mind: highlight proteins that carry flavor (duck, lamb, game, or pork), avoid heavy cream reductions, and lean into roasted, braised, or herb-infused preparations.
About. Domaine Paul Pernot et Ses Fils is based in Puligny-Montrachet, one of Burgundy’s most renowned villages for Chardonnay. The estate traces its beginnings to the mid-20th century. However, sources differ on the precise year—records suggest Paul Pernot began acquiring vineyard parcels around 1955, with formal establishment of the domaine noted as either 1955 or 1959. What is clear is that over the following decades, the family steadily expanded its holdings to include some of the village’s most prized sites, including plots in Premier Cru and Grand Cru vineyards.
Today the domaine farms close to 23 hectares, with an emphasis on Chardonnay across Puligny-Montrachet and adjoining appellations. Their holdings include enviable parcels in Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, and Chevalier-Montrachet, as well as key Premier Crus like Les Pucelles, Clos de la Garenne, and Les Folatières. These sites sit on classic Puligny terroir of thin, stony soils over limestone, producing wines of tension, lift, and refined mineral character.
