Description

From: Loire Valley, France
Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc

Taste: This wine offers balance, purity and complexity, and has a remarkable ability to age. This wine sees the style return to a more modern classical character, where the warm growing season has taken the spiky edges off the Sauvignon Blanc, but where tension and chalky intensity remain the driving force of the wine, thanks to the wonderful Kimmeridgean limestone of the appellation.

Pairing: A classic pairing is fresh goat cheese with herbs and crostini, particularly
Crottin de Chavignol, which complements the wine’s minerality and provides a creamy
counterpoint to its zesty profile. Grilled asparagus with lemon zest and Parmesan is
another excellent match, as the wine’s acidity balances the vegetal bitterness of
asparagus, while lemon zest and Parmesan enhance its citrus and mineral notes.
Try seared scallops with a citrus beurre blanc for a more indulgent option. The wine’s
lively acidity cuts through the sauce's richness and highlights the scallops' delicate
sweetness. Similarly, lemon and herb-roasted chicken, seasoned with garlic, thyme, and tarragon pairs seamlessly with the Sancerre, as its clean, fresh profile complements the savory flavors of the dish.

A spring-inspired pea risotto with mint offers another thoughtful pairing. The wine’s
acidity lifts the creamy risotto, while the fresh peas and mint bring out its notes of green apple and citrus. For a taste of the sea, steamed mussels with white wine, garlic, and parsley mirror the Sancerre’s briny minerality and herbal undertones, creating a
beautifully harmonious match. Lastly, the wine pairs wonderfully with sushi and
sashimi, especially delicate options like white fish, shrimp, or salmon. The wine’s zesty
acidity elevates the clean, fresh flavors of the sushi, while a touch of soy sauce and
pickled ginger adds a satisfying contrast.

About. The story of Domaine Paul Prieur began in the early 20th century when the Prieur family established themselves as winegrowers in Sancerre. It wasn’t until 1946, after World War II, that Paul Prieur began bottling wines under his own name rather than
selling them in bulk to négociants, a transformative step for the domaine. This decision
allowed the family to showcase the true identity of their vineyards and establish their
reputation as one of the pioneers of estate-bottled Sancerre wines. Over the decades,
Domaine Paul Prieur et Fils became synonymous with quality Sancerre, built on Paul’s
commitment to honoring the region's limestone-rich soils and unique climate. By the
1970s and 1980s, the domaine had become a trusted name in France and international
markets, often sought after for its consistent, terroir-driven Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot
Noir.

Today, the estate is managed by Luc Prieur, Paul Prieur’s grandson, who represents the
latest generation of the family. Luc joined the domaine in the early 2010s after
completing formal winemaking education and gaining experience working in other
regions. His return marked a blend of tradition and innovation, where respect for the
land is upheld while introducing modern techniques to enhance precision and
sustainability. Luc works alongside his father, Didier Prieur, ensuring that the domaine
remains a true family-run operation. Together, they uphold the philosophy passed down
through generations: producing wines that reflect the unique terroirs of Sancerre
