From: Beaune, Burgundy, France
Varietal: Pinot Noir
Taste & Critical Acclaim: The wine presents a brilliant ruby-red hue with a subtle garnet edge. The nose is expressive and layered, with aromas of fresh red fruits such as wild strawberries, raspberries, and red cherries. Subtle floral notes of violets and a hint of rose petal lend elegance, while underlying earthy tones of forest floor and a touch of spice, such as white pepper and clove, add complexity. On the palate are flavors of ripe red fruits mirrored from the nose. Hints of cranberry and redcurrant bring a tart freshness, balanced by a silky texture and fine-grained tannins. The wine has a medium-bodied structure with a bright acidity that keeps it refreshing and food-friendly. A gentle mineral undertone and a touch of savory spice emerge on the finish.
“A deep mid purple, with unusual intensity – this includes Monthelie and 1er Cru. It is an interesting mix of sweet raspberry, some blackcurrant, and juicy cherry. Medium-bodied, a delicate balance between tannins and acidity alongside the abundant fruit. Drink from 2025-2029. Tasted Oct 2023.” Jasper Morris
Pairing: Its medium-bodied profile works well with dishes of similar weight, such as roasted chicken, duck breast, or grilled salmon, ensuring the wine and food are in harmony. The bright acidity of the wine enhances dishes with fresh elements like tomato-based sauces or vinaigrettes, creating a balanced interplay of flavors. Its subtle earthiness makes it a natural match for mushroom risotto, lentil stew, or truffle-infused dishes, which echo the wine’s savory characteristics. To preserve the wine’s delicate profile, avoiding heavily spiced dishes and opt for mild seasonings is best. For a classic touch, pair this wine with Burgundian fare like coq au vin, escargot, or boeuf bourguignon to bring out the wine’s terroir-driven elegance.

About: Born in 1975 in Beaune, Benjamin Leroux displayed an early interest in viticulture that would shape his remarkable career. He began in 1999 when he became the estate manager at Domaine Comte Armand in Pommard at just 24 years old. Over the next decade, he transformed the estate’s reputation, mainly through his work with the iconic Clos des Epeneaux vineyard, earning widespread acclaim for his skill and vision.
After over a decade of success at Comte Armand, Leroux launched his domaine in 2007. Based in Beaune, he aimed to create wines that captured the purity and complexity of Burgundy’s terroir. Initially operating as a micro-négociant, Leroux worked with trusted growers to source high-quality grapes. Over time, he began acquiring his own vineyard parcels, adding depth and diversity to his offerings. Today, his domaine is known for its exceptional range of wines, from regional bottlings to prestigious premier and grand cru selections.
