Taste: Bright straw in the glass, this Pecorino opens with a concentrated nose of apricot blossom, lemongrass, acacia, sea spray, and yellow apple. The palate echoes the floral tones while layering in white peach, lemon zest, and a lingering note of melon and subtle herbal and mineral notes. Rounded in texture yet lifted by brisk acidity, the wine remains fresh and persistent, carrying its medium body with balance and clarity through the finish.

Pairing: Pecorino’s combination of freshness, texture, and herbal nuance makes it versatile for pairing. General rules: it thrives with seafood, vegetable dishes, and light pastas, and can cut through oils or moderate richness.

About. Poggio Anima is based in Castelnuovo dell’Abate, a historic hamlet southeast of Montalcino in Tuscany. The name translates to “Hill of the Soul,” and the project reflects a collaboration between Riccardo Campinoti of Le Ragnaie and Ronnie Sanders of Vine Street Imports. Founded in 2010, Poggio Anima was built on the idea that high-quality, regionally expressive Italian wines could be made accessible without sacrificing authenticity. Each bottling represents a different region of Italy, showcasing both the country’s diversity of terroir and its deep reservoir of indigenous varieties.

The winery’s structure is unusual in that it is not tied to a single estate but works with a network of small growers across multiple Italian regions. Campinoti, who is known for his organically farmed, terroir-driven Brunellos at Le Ragnaie, oversees the winemaking. His sensibility in favoring restrained use of oak, spontaneous fermentations, and clarity of fruit guides Poggio Anima’s approach across all sites. By applying the same precision and discipline he uses in Montalcino to a broader canvas of Italian appellations, Poggio Anima manages to bridge the gap between artisanal quality and everyday drinkability.
