From: Piedmont, Italy
Varietal: Nebbiolo
Tasting Notes: Ruby red color with garnet highlights. It has a sumptuous bouquet with overtones of ripe plums, tobacco, liquorice, dried mushrooms, nutmeg, and white pepper. Dense, closely-wove tannins give the taste a well-knit sensation together with softness and balance.
Critical Acclaim: "Lazzarito comes from La Delizia Vineyard located just outside the village of Serralunga. The nebbiolo vines here grow in sedimentary marine soils mixed with calcareous marl, and the resulting wines are textbook examples of the powerful structure associated with Barolo from Serralunga. This 2001 harnesses that power in a seamless way, the tannin providing a firm foundation for the interplay of punchy cherry flavors and fragrant porcini earthiness. After a day of air, the wine grows more expressive and becomes a precise, clean arc of flavor that lasts. Completely satisfying, this will only get better with time. Buy three bottles: two for the cellar and one for grilled rack of lamb." –Wine & Spirits, 94 points (December 2007)
"The 2001 Barolo Lazzarito was made in the same over, opulent style as the other 2001s, but now, after the passage of time, it is the vineyard's distinct signature that has taken center stage. Black cherries, plums, licorice, tar and smoke are some of the many notes that flow from this huge, muscular 2001. If anything, the 2001 needs more is time. Subtle overtones of mint, flowers and spices add the final layers of complexity. This is another great showing." –Vinous, 92 points (April 2012)

About. In the heart of the Lazzarito cru lies one of the most historic vineyards of Fontanafredda. Vigna La Delizia stands on top of a strip of marl-calcareous-clayey land, rich in graininess skeleton. It’s a tasty Barolo, with spicy reminiscents and balsam aromas, with a deep verticality and tannins that need time to express themselves at their best.
