From: Columbia Valley, Washington State
Varietal: 100% Cabernet Sauvignon
Taste & Critical Acclaim: “The 2021 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon from Quilceda Creek is once again another monumental release. It begins to impress with its striking perfumed aromas of ripe blackberries and dark currants, which are joined together with crushed violets, graphite, tobacco, and hints of licorice all developing in the glass. On the palate this possesses a gorgeous full body that is impeccably structured with beautifully polished tannins that result in an utterly seamless texture. This continues to impress with its excellent balance, concentration, and remarkable overall power and finesse. There is a lovely touch of underlying acidity that ties it all together and provides a wonderful sense of freshness that carries it into the lavish finish. While this is already stunning in its youth, it is ultimately an age worthy wine which will go on to evolve for decades. Quilceda Creek sets the benchmark for Cabernet Sauvignon in Washington, and this is a clear example of why they have earned that reputation.” 100 Points, J.D’Angelo, International Wine Report

Pairing: With how exceptional this wine is, we recommend not straying from classic pairings for Washington Cabernets. Classic pairings include grilled red meats like steaks and lamb chops, which harmonize with the wine's robust nature, and barbecued ribs that balance its boldness with sweet and tangy flavors. Roasted or braised beef dishes, such as beef roast or short ribs, and game meats like venison, especially when served with a berry-based sauce, complement the wine's complexity. Hearty stews with root vegetables and hard-aged cheeses like aged cheddar or Parmigiano-Reggiano also make excellent choices, enhancing the wine's earthy qualities. For dessert, dark chocolate or a chocolate ganache tart provides a rich, intense flavor that pairs well without overwhelming the wine. These food choices highlight the strong characteristics of Washington Cabernet Sauvignon, making them perfect for an enhanced tasting experience.

About: Quilceda Creek Winery is a renowned winery in Snohomish, Washington, USA, famous for producing high-quality Cabernet Sauvignon. It was founded in 1978 by Alex Golitzin, who drew inspiration from his uncle, the famous winemaker André Tchelistcheff. This connection not only provided Golitzin with valuable mentoring but also linked him to deep-rooted winemaking traditions that he would incorporate into his winery.
Alex Golitzin's vision was the driving force behind the founding of Quilceda Creek. His background in chemical engineering, combined with his winemaking lineage and apprenticeship under his uncle André Tchelistcheff, was critical in establishing the winery's foundational practices. Golitzin's approach was scientific and traditional, blending new technology with age-old winemaking techniques.
Under his guidance, Quilceda Creek has maintained a focus on estate-grown grapes and precise winemaking techniques, which have been crucial to its consistent quality and critical success. Today, the winery remains largely a family operation, with Alex's son, Paul Golitzin, now at the helm as the director of winemaking.
