From: Jerez, Spain
Varietal: Palomino
Tasting Notes: The wine is lovely – pretty well a mid-point between Manzanilla and Jerez Finos in style. Coastal, but less overtly briny than La Goya. Delicately earthy with constrained power, like a baby Jerez wine.
"One of the more maritime Finos, with hints of seashells. Quite youthful, with light hints of flor as well as some hay. Light pear aromas. Also subtle notes of chamomile, not unlike some Manzanillas. Very fresh and round, with an intense citrusy palate, though a little on the gentle side overall. Salted almonds. Crisp apple flavors. A little bread crust and yeast. A firm bitterness in the finish." –Ruben Luyten, SherryNotes
Pairing: Sip on this fino sherry with a traditional spread of olives, almonds, and ibérico ham, and even tinned fish if you'd like!
Owing to their bodega's unique location directly on the Guadelete River, blocks from the ocean, in the town of El Puerto de Santa Maria, Gutierrez Colosia has extremely active flor year-round and a very pronounced saline character throughout their wines. The Fino is aged for a minimum of 3 years under the flor and is bottled to order by the estate, thus preserving freshness.
