Varietal: Riesling

Taste & Critical Acclaim: The nose is marked by flinty and smoky notes, underscored by a pronounced minerality. Subtle hints of lemon zest, lime, and white peach emerge, complemented by spicy undertones. On the palate is a crunchy texture that speaks to its dryness. The citrus and stone fruit flavors are well-integrated, leading to a clean, chiseled mineral finish and balanced acidity.

"The 2023 Niedermenniger Sonnenberg Riesling Kabinett trocken #9 Munny is clear and precise on the fresh, flinty, very precise, promising intense and nose. Silky, fresh and saline on the palate, this is a laser-sharp and saline Riesling with ripe and fine acidity and enormous intensity and tensioned expression. It is highly stimulating. 11% stated alcohol. Natural cork. Tasted at the domaine in August 2024.” 92 points, Wine Advocate

"AP: 09 24. The 2023er Niedermenniger Sonnenberg Riesling Kabinett Trocken Munny (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) comes from 60-70-year-old vines in the Lieux-Dit Unter den Röderchen. It offers a superb nose made of ginger, citrusy fruits, earthy spices, and smoke. The wine proves spicy, focused, and quite racy but with ripe acidity. The finish is long and very focused. This has the cut of Falkenstein with great elegance.” 91 points, Mosel Fine Wines

Pairing:
Unlike their off-dry counterparts, which balance spice with residual sugar, Kabinett trocken wines are best suited for lighter, fresher, and more delicate dishes rather than heavily spiced or creamy foods. Their bright acidity cuts through rich textures, making them great partners for grilled seafood, shellfish, and white meats such as roast chicken, pork tenderloin, or turkey. The wine’s citrus and herbal notes complement dishes with fresh herbs like basil, cilantro, or dill and citrus-based sauces and vinaigrettes.

About: Hofgut Falkenstein, a distinguished winery in the Saar region of Germany's Mosel Valley, is celebrated for its traditional winemaking practices and the production of exceptional Riesling wines. Hofgut Falkenstein's origins date back to 1984, when Erich Weber, born in the nearby village of Krettnach, embarked on his winemaking journey. With a familial connection to viticulture—his uncle owned vineyards that needed tending—Erich seized the opportunity to cultivate a modest 0.4-hectare plot. This initial endeavor laid the foundation for what would become a renowned estate dedicated to preserving the authentic character of Saar wines.
