From: Chiroubles, Beaujolais, France
Varietal: Gamay
Tasting Notes: The 2023 vintage has proved to be a fine year for Beaujolais, producing bright, aromatic wines filled with strawberry and cherry notes, and this wine shows this off brilliantly. From 40-year-old vines on granite, this youthful and bright Chiroubles shows off fragrant red fruits, pretty florals, and a lifted, crunchy palate that finishes on a mineral and slightly herbaceous note. We highly recommend serving this with a slight chill for the best results and ... yep! That’s about it. This Chiroubles is a refreshing, delicious, easy-to-adore red you’ll keep reaching for this season.
Pairing: Chicken, turkey, or pork, picnic fare, weekday takeout, Asian fare, and, of course, charcuterie and fromage boards. Some specific examples include pairing this charmer with chicken wings, fried chicken, ham & cheese buns or sandwiches (or jambon et beurre baguette), grilled pork chops, pork tenderloin, veal chops, quail stuffed with mushrooms, roasted chicken or turkey, grilled salmon, meatballs, takeout burgers or gyros, sweet & sour chicken, pork, or tofu, and even teriyaki. We’re sharing a five-star recipe by Mark Bittman for pork Rillettes below; it’s one of our favorite ways to enjoy with Beaujolais or Loire Valley reds, and if you’re not feeling up to making it yourself, it’s just as pleasurable when you pick it up at a specialty grocery store.

“I work with daylight, it is what sets the rhythm of my days and gives each vine the energy to draw the best from the land.” - Fabien Collonge
Fabien Collonge, born in 1976, is among the generation of winemakers able to successfully meld tradition and innovation well. Influenced by both his parents and grandparents in traditional viticulture and winemaking, his philosophy has become one that builds upon that foundation with modern sensibilities. His wines reflect his daily work in the steep vineyards, and carry the unique signature of Chiroubles’ high-altitude sandstone and pink granite terroir.
