From: Baja California, Mexico
Varietal: Sauvignon Blanc
Monte Xanic is known as Mexico's first boutique winery. This wine comes from its oldest estate grown grapes, harvested by hand from the single-vineyard named ‘Kristel’. These vines average 50 years in age and deliver the most flavorful grapes of the Valle de Guadalupe terroir. Half of the grapes used in this bottle were harvest early in the season to capture bright acidity & green herbal notes. The rest were harvested at the peak of ripeness later in the season for structure.
Tasting Notes: This wine is intense and expressive on the nose with notes of fresh tangerines and grapefruit as well as tropical fruits like guava, lychee, soursop, passionfruit, and pineapple. Aromas of orange blossom flowers and lemon tea are also perceptible. On the palate, this is a dry, fresh, light wine with lively acidity and a core of yellow grapefruit, white pear, and soft herbal notes.
Pairing: The persistence of citrus aromas in this wine pairs well with seafood and shellfish; pair this wine with dishes like ceviche, aguachile, trout, sashimi, and mojarra. Also think about trying it with salads, fresh cheeses like goat cheese and panela, Mexican lime soup, or chilled soups like gazpacho or salmorejo.
