From: Paarl, South Africa
Varietal: Chenin Blanc
Taste & Critical Acclaim: From The Producer: “A true showcase of the versatility and depth of South African Chenin Blanc. Light straw color with a golden hue, with aromas of white peach, citrus and pineapple. The rich and ripe mouthfeel in this elegant wine is balanced by vibrant acidity and subtle minerality.”
“Aromas of citrus fruit, peach, pear and honey are inviting. This wine has moderate acidity supporting stone fruit, apple and a light note of linden tea on the palate. It finishes with notes of lemon.” — 90 Points, Jesica Vargas, Wine Enthusiast
Pairing: For a classic pairing, try grilled lemon herb chicken, where the bright citrus flavors of the dish harmonize with the wine's aromas and acidity. Seafood lovers will find a stunning match with seared scallops topped with a pineapple beurre blanc, as the wine's pineapple and stone fruit notes enhance the scallops' sweetness while its acidity balances the dish's richness.
For a heartier option, pork tenderloin with apple compote mirrors the subtle apple flavors in the wine while its vibrant acidity cuts through the meat's richness. Vegetarian dishes like Pad Thai with lime and crushed peanuts also pair beautifully, with the wine’s fruit-forward character complementing the tangy and savory elements of the dish. For a touch of indulgence, a creamy brie and honey tart pair the wine’s notes of honey and minerality. Finally, roast turkey with a citrus glaze makes for a delightful pairing, with the wine's lemon and stone fruit finish enhancing the dish's roasted flavors and zesty glaze.

About: Lievland Vineyards, located on the western slopes of the Simonsberg Mountains between Stellenbosch and Paarl in South Africa, has a history stretching back to 1715 when the farm was first granted to ex-soldier Jurie Hanekom. The estate’s historic manor house, built in 1865, is a landmark of its legacy. Over time, Lievland became home to several notable figures, including a Latvian baroness who managed the farm and a winemaker who gained acclaim for crafting an iconic Shiraz, which brought attention to the estate. Another innovative individual at Lievland was among the first in the region to barrel-ferment Chenin Blanc, establishing a tradition that has become common practice.
