Taste & Critical Acclaim: The glass reveals a deep ruby hue, immediately inviting exploration. The nose is expressive and layered, offering enticing aromas of ripe blackberries, violets, and a touch of dried Provençal herbs, complemented by a subtle hint of spice. The wine is full-bodied on the palate, balancing fresh, ripe blackberry fruit and the earthy complexity of its herbal undertones. Soft tannins provide a velvety texture, enhancing its drinkability while maintaining structure.
"Fine, precise, spicy berries and violets. Medium-bodied, fresh and lively. Finishes dry, with fine tannins and a little bit of dried Provençal herbs. Delightful. 20% whole bunch. Drinking Window: 2022-2027. (Oct 2021)” 93 points, Matt Walls, Decanter
"The attractive nose of violets and blackberries pulls you into this rich and well-balanced Vacqueyras that has a slew of soft tannins supporting the full body. Long, supple and moderately dry finish with some finesse. Drink or hold. (3/21/22)” 91 points, James Suckling
Pairing: Traditional Provençal fare, such as daube de boeuf (a slow-cooked beef stew with red wine and herbs), is a classic match, as the wine’s structure and herbal notes complement the dish's richness. Lamb chops grilled with rosemary and thyme also pair seamlessly, echoing the wine’s dried herb characteristics. For a rustic pairing, try a hearty ratatouille, where the wine's bright fruit contrasts the sweet and savory medley of vegetables.

About: Domaine Sang des Cailloux estate is in the southern Rhône Valley, located in Vacqueyras, a cru appellation between Gigondas and Beaumes-de-Venise. Its name, which translates to "Blood of the Stones," evokes the rugged, stony terroir that defines the region and the wines. The domaine’s reputation stems from its meticulous craftsmanship, respect for the land, and commitment to expressing the unique identity of its vineyards through its wines.
The domaine was founded in 1975 and subsequently bought by Serge Férigoule in 1990. Before acquiring Sang des Cailloux, Serge worked for the previous owner, gaining experience and nurturing his dream of creating something that would reflect the true character of Vacqueyras. When he took over at Sang des Cailloux, he quickly became a local pioneer by rejecting chemical fertilizers and herbicides at a time when they were the norm. His dedication to organic farming practices and traditional methods set the stage for the estate's identity as a leader in sustainable viticulture.
