From: Upper Loire, France
Varietal: Gamay
Tasting Notes: This Gamay from the Cotes du Forez AOC, located on France’s Massif Central, near the headwaters of the Loire river, is like the volcanic cousin of Cru Beaujolais. Grown at high elevations on a mix of volcanic and granitic soils, this wine balances the nimble freshness of its fruit (think redcurrants, tart cherries, plums, and blackberries) with the textural richness, minerality, and woodsiness derived from terroir.
Pairing: This wine would make the perfect pairing for mushroom dishes, cured meats, earthy greens, and lentil dishes. Meanwhile, its spicy freshness also allows it to shine alongside dishes like shawarma, gyros, and anything with Chinese five-spice powder. We’d suggest uncorking it with your next epic charcuterie experience. For inspiration, we’ll share Kay Chun’s take on the Charcuterie Board from NYT Cooking.
