From: Castilla la Mancha, Spain
Varietals: 50% Verdejo, 50% Sauvignon Blanc
Tasting Notes: Aromatics of orange blossom and tropical jackfruit, with moderately tannic dried citrus peels, tea, and preserved apricots. On the palate - Orange, grapefruit, and honeysuckle with notes of fresh salinity and a touch of funky earth.
Pairing: “Orange wines are so versatile that they can often be paired with many different types of foods. Lately, I have been pairing orange wines with sea urchin, fried chicken, a range of aged hard cheeses, spicy seafood boils, jerky, and oven-baked salmon,” says Doreen Winkler, founder of Orange Glou. This particular orange wine is juicy and slightly funky, and can definitely stand up to savory dishes that have a little heat. Which is why we’re going to share a recipe by David Tanis for Turkish-Style Lamb Boreks! This will yield 8 large servings, or up to 32 small bites & only take about an hour to make. PS. Vegetarian? Not to worry. You can use mashed potatoes (very common substitute in Turkey) or cooked green lentils and potatoes (it’ll make the texture similar to meat) in place of the ground lamb.
About. Gulp Hablo is the dream of three brothers, Francisco, Javier, and Luis Parra. The hope was to celebrate their home of La Mancha by raising organically and biodynamically grown grapes. When it comes to the winemaking behind Friend and Farmer, they partnered with the exceptional Juan Antonio Ponce of Bodegas Ponce. The name Gulp Hablo (ah-blow) is play on the word ‘gulpable’ and that’s exactly what it is.
Demeter and vegan certified, no sulfites added. Fermentation and maturation are both done in stainless steel. This wine made of the indigenous white-berried grape called Verdejo, and while common and popular in Spain is still underrepresented in American markets. It is known for making thirst-quenching dry whites.
