Tasting Notes: 2016 was an exceptional vintage for Pauillac wines, and this bottle showcases that well. Intense aromas of blackcurrants and blackberries and notes of spice, violets, red cherry, and well-integrated oak notes. On the palate, this wine is emblematic of a beautiful Pauillac with its opulent fruit, fresh acidity, refined tannins, and restrained notes of leather and tobacco.
About. Back in 1982, a young Albert Tiffon, the youngest in a family of winemakers based in Saint Saveur du Médoc for over 150 years, decided to set out on his own to establish Château La Fleur Haut Carras. This micro-property is comprised of just four hectares (less than 10 acres): two hectares that Tiffon purchased from his great uncle, along with two hectares of vineyards belonging to old winegrowers who plan to retire.
Today it would be impossible for Albert Tiffon to purchase new plots of Pauillac, as the pressure from his wealthy neighbors (Mouton, Latour, Lynch-Bages, and Pichon Comtesse de Lalande), is strong. Albert often fields calls from those asking if he’s willing to sell his 4 hectares, which are worth about 2 million euros per hectare by now! A Mouton Rothschild for instance, could bottle wine made from Albert's vineyards in Pauillac and sell it for 300€ per bottle in contrast with Albert's 20€. It is for this reason that all the little properties in the famous Left Bank appellations sell their estates to the big classified growths. And so we consider ourselves very lucky to have a first Pauillac wine from a small producer, not a second, or third or fourth wine from a classified growth. Albert is committed to continuing to work on his small estate and is proud of his wines in Pauillac.
