This spectacular holding of 1.57ha has been in the family since 2005 and never fails to impress. One portion of the vineyard actually extends into Les Gaudichots, better known today as La Tâche. After a mostly whole cluster fermentation and some time in cask, the 2019 delivers intensely ripe blackberry fruit, with hints of spice and smoke, plus a dense texture that showcases firm but supple tannins and a savoury, saline finish. The 2019 Vosne-Romanée Aux Malconsorts 1er Cru has a more savory bouquet than the Les Beaux Monts, the whole bunch less integrated by direct comparison and yet it also delivers more terroir expression and mineralité. Touches of cracked black pepper and sage lend complexity to the dark berry fruit. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, a fine bead of acidity, very harmonious with white pepper and clove, a lovely grainy texture and perhaps more refinement compared to the Echézeaux. The kind of Vosne-Romanée that you want to elope with.

Even in the charming 2019 vintage, a decade's patience will be a minimum requirement for this Malconsorts.

The mouthfeel of the broad-shouldered flavors is sleek with an almost silky mid-palate that contrasts markedly with the muscular and notably firm finale that displays focused power on the dusty, youthfully austere and serious finale. (Vosne-Romanée “Malconsorts”- Domaine Dujac) In some vintages, Domaine Dujac’s Malconsorts bottling is all red fruit, but in the warmer summer of 2019, there is a nice mix of both red and black fruit tones in evidence here. The bouquet offers up a refined blend of black raspberries, plums, duck, a complex base of soil, raw cocoa, woodsmoke and nutty new oak. On the palate the wine is bright, full-bodied, pure on the attack and nicely structured on the backend, with a fine core of fruit, lovely soil signature, fine-grained tannins and a long, vibrant and nascently complex finish. Fine juice in the making, but patience will be required, as this is not one of the more forward premier crus to be found in the vintage. (Drink between 2032-2080)
