From: Portugal
Tasting Notes: The wines used in the final blend of this wine were aged for 20 years, and made in a tawny port style. This beautifully rich, aged port melds oxidative qualities with honeyed fruit in a nostalgically magical way. Drink this neat, slightly chilled or if it’s at fridge temp, make sure to sip slow & watch the intrigue unfurl.
About. Kopke existed even before there was a Demarcated Region of the Douro. Established in 1638, the oldest Port wine house built an impeccable reputation based on the highest quality. A leader in the production of Port Tawny Colheita wines, including white port, Kopke has a remarkable range of special category Ports, also producing excellent DOC Douro wines.
Vinification: Its fermentation takes place in stainless steel vats, where the grapes macerate and are churned with their skins on, at temperatures between 16-18ºC, to produce a white wine full of color and structure, able to sustain prolonged aging in oak. The fermentation is halted by adding grape brandy, creating the fortified wine. A wine of high quality, made by blending wines of different harvests to achieve the array of sensory qualities that are typical of these aged white wines. The wines mature in oak casks for variable periods of time, with the average age of all the wines in the blend defining the age on the label. The resulting blend expresses the characteristics given by the aging in wood.
