Best's Great Western consistently produce aromatic, flavoursome and perfectly structured Rieslings that stand alongside Australia's great Riesling. The 2019 Best's Great Western Riesling is another excellent example of this variety that is already receiving plenty of plaudits, including Top Gold (96 Points) at the 2019 Victorian Wine Show.
Aromas of kaffir lime and nashi pear with a jasmine lift leady to a palate that offers zesty citrus, crunchy red apple skin supported by a steely backbone. The Rieslings of Best’s have a proven ability to mature gracefully for 20 years or more. This example is no exception and its youthful freshness is a good sign for its long life in the cellar. It will gather complex toasty aromas and flavours as the years pass.
"95 Points. Whole-bunch pressed to stainless steel for cold fermentation, stopped with 7g/l residual sugar. Gold medal Melbourne Wine Awards ’19, top gold Victorian Wine Show ’19. It has the intense lime zest and pith flavours I find irresistible. Bright acidity glides alongside the fruit. 11% alc, screwcap 95 points, drink to 2035, $25" - James Halliday, The Weekend Australian, June 6, 2020.
