Because of his passion for Burgundy, Alex Gambal left the world of real estate to explore this fascinating region with all its complexity. After attending the viticultural school for adults in Beaune, he created Maison Alex Gambal in 1997 with the goal to express character, terroir and purity of each wine. One of the few Americans in Burgundy, and one of the few Americans accepted within its wine ranks, his wines have showed complexity, purity, and consistency year after year.
This is a special offering of Alex Gambal's wines, as these are the very last wines available. This is his last vintage, and he's "sold the farm" to the Boisset family. We wish him and his family well, and though we're sad to see the estate go, we're so thankful for the opportunity to have enjoyed his wines for years now.
Set back from Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet, the winegrowing area of Saint-Aubin is situated in marvelous rolling countryside with the most varied orientations here and soil types that differ greatly. Magnificent and underrated white wines are produced here, as well as some fresh, fruity red wines.
This village wine is a blend of two plots “Les Vellerottes” and “En Bas de Vermarain à l ’Est”.
