From: Lazio, Italy
Varietal: Cesanese de Affile
This wine comes from the deep red, volcanic soils of the Cesanese di Olevano Romano DOC. "Silene" was named after a wildflower commonly seen in Damiano Ciolli vineyards called Silene vulgaris. This wine is made from Cesanese d’Affile grapes blended from different vineyard blocks, which are on average 30 years old.
Tasting Notes: Ruby red with garnet hues. Aromas of red berries, rosemary, and musky floral notes. Crisp and lean, this wine is nicely balanced with a measured tannin that blends perfectly with a volcanic minerality and juicy acidity.
Pairing: This wine will pair beautifully with sausages, beans, and a range of pasta dishes from caccio e pepe to meat or mushroom lasagna.
