It's the week after Labor Day, and there's so much going on! In the moments between picking the kids up from school, watching the news, and waiting for football season to officially start, we invite you to swing by and taste with us. We have beautiful Cava to share, along with art that celebrates nature, and an introduction to vermouth.
Wednesday, September 6th, 2017 5 pm to 7 pmAgustí Torelló Mata Cava's = One of the most prestigious Cava producers in Spain.

Just let the weight of the name sink in for a second.

Agustí Torelló Mata Cava. They're here in Seattle and will be here in Champion Wine Cellars tomorrow evening from 5 pm to 7 pm.

Mata has single-handedly created more prestige for the reputation of Cava than any other winery in the Penedès region of Catalunya. He's pursued this goal single-mindedly with fierce determination to produce heavenly hand-crafted Cava's using only indigenous varietals from the very finest vineyards.

Originally from a family line of tailors and musicians, Agustí left his lineage behind to dedicate his life to a belief that Penedès and Cava were both an exceptional region and wine, and hadn't properly been curated previously. He founded the winery in 1950, began the regions first wine analysis center in 1953, and then established a promotional body for Cava, called the Cava Guild. The current winery re-opened in 1992 under the direction of his four sons: Agustí, Gemma, Alex, and Lali.

Since then, his winery has been dedicated to making reserva and gran reserva cavas in the Penedès region, his Kripta cuvée being the star of the show and a cult classic. Kripta began in 1979 when Mata realized his winery should use the oldest vineyards in Penedès to make something truly... soulful. And it is, along with their tagline: Cava with soul. And that slogan would seem silly until you have a chance to taste it for yourself.

Friday, September 8th, 2017 from 6 pm to 9 pm: The Greenwood Art Walk happens every second Friday of the month and this month, we'll be featuring artist illustrator Frida Clements. She's amazing, and we can't wait for you to meet her! In addition to having Frida here, we'll be tasting a round of organic Southern Rhône wines to compliment the festivities of the evening.

A bit about Frida:

Her silk-screened posters have become synonymous with the vibrant music scene of the Pacific Northwest. Her nature-inspired palette compliments her distinctive Scandinavian aesthetic, in which flora and fauna are frequent subjects. She was named "Best Show Poster Artist" in 2010 by Seattle Weekly, has been featured multiple times as "Poster of the Week" in The Stranger, as well as the books of 1000 Indie Posters, Gig Posters Volume II, and Paper + Ink Workshop. Her first fully illustrated book, The Wandering Goose by Heather Earnhardt, was released in September of 2013 via Sasquatch Books/Random House. Her latest book, Have A Little Pun, has been released in 2015 via Chronicle Books.

Saturday, September 8th, 2017 from 11 am to 5 pm: Spanish and Italian Vermouth and Pineau des Charentes! A Great Definition of Vermouth from Wine Folly:

"Vermouth is an aromatized wine that includes wine, botanicals, some sugar (or grape juice) and spirits–to fortify the wine. It is the use of botanicals which include herbs, spices, and bitter roots that make Vermouth unique. Vermouth was considered a spa beverage that was good for the health during centuries past due to several of its bitter ingredients. We can pay homage to the city of Turin (Torino) in Piedmont, Italy for making Vermouth an important beverage used in cocktails and as an aperitivi and digestivi." -Wine Folly
