100% old vine Carignan from Minervois. Carignan used to be a widely planted varietal whose origins are Mediterranean- thought to be Spanish. It was despised in the Languedoc, where yields ran rampant, and the rough tannins and bitter finish unappealing to many a drinker. However, the old vine Carignan of Minervois grown on infertile soil and lower yields, as this is, produces a lovely wine with a dash of pepper, wild red and black fruits, and a firm and spicy core. Delicious with grilled and smoked meats, stews and burgers.
