2011 Hall Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon

92 points Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar

Fairly rich and concentrated, with excellent depth and a range of flavor built around dark berry, mocha, espresso, cedar and tobacco notes, turning graceful midpalate and ending with a persistent finish. Offers ripe, interwoven tannins. Drink now through 2024.   (8/2014)

The 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon is dark, rich and voluptuous. Mocha, espresso, plum, black cherry and intense spices all meld together in a textured, layered wine loaded with class and personality. As always, the Hall Cabernets are forward, fruit-driven and super-rich. This is a great introduction to the house style.  (11/2013)

Connoisseurs Guide

Glimmers of milk chocolate sit amidst scents of moderately ripe cherries in the direct, slightly sweet aromas of this supple, somewhat soft-leaning wine, and the flavors that follow, while not without fruit, reflect a similar bias to mildly chocolaty ripeness. Although there is richness to be had here, there is a trim of heat as well and less in the way of classic Cabernet structure, and we do not see this one benefitting from a lengthy stay in the cellar. Three to five years should be just about right.   (8/2014)

Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The attractive 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa is a pretty, fruity (dark currants) effort with medium body and a short finish...Based on my experience with the Hall wines, they show better from bottle than from barrel samples, always a sign of a high quality winery. All of these wines possess splendid opaque blue/purple colors.   (10/2013)

K&L Notes

Hall sources select fruit from across Napa Valley for their entry-level Cabernet Sauvignon bottling, and the result is a very substantial and harmonious wine. Fruit from Hall's organically farmed estate vineyards is featured prominently, as well as fruit from partner growers' hillside sites. The Cabernet Sauvignon is complemented by 8% Merlot and 1% Petit Verdot and the wine was aged in 55% new French oak for 18 months before bottling. From the winery: "Our 2011 Hall Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is brimming with aromas of cassis, black cherry, and espresso. On the palate, opulent flavors of dark bing cherry, blackberry and notes of caramel lead to a velvety finish."
